Cub3s

Artist statement:

This series of epoxy resin cubes align as preserved portraits of both organic and inorganic Appalachian artifacts. The collected materials were gathered on the border of a forest and a highway in Logan, Ohio. From the right to left figures, the cast objects present depleting vegetation; and increasing manufactured (discarded) products, all while being presented through alien-like prisms. When strolling through the woods, it can be hard to differentiate between living (particularly floral) organisms and left-behind human objects, especially when the earth tirelessly incorporates them back into nature. These blocks resemble the infamous “gelatinous cube” monster in Dungeons and Dragons, to draw parallels between the consequences of human civilization campaigns, and the world’s ability to dissolve all traces of it (eventually).

Exhibited at the Columbus College of Art and Design’s 2022 Elements exhibition, the Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio, and Beeler Gallery.
